The Benefits Of RAW CBDa Capsules
CBD has undoubtedly become the star of the show when it comes to optimising wellbeing with cannabinoids. But its precursor – CBDa, gets very little attention despite promising preliminary evidence. This article will outline the benefits of choosing RAW CBDa capsules over standard CBD capsules.
What are CBDa capsules?
CBDa capsules are capsules in which the dominant cannabinoid is CBDa, rather than CBD.
Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDa) is the raw form of Cannabidiol (CBD) that is naturally found in the plant. When exposed to heat, light, or oxidised for long periods of time, CBDa converts into CBD.
The conversion of CBDa to CBD is known as decarboxylation, which also occurs with most other cannabinoids. In the plant, THC is in THCa form, as with GBG for CBGa.
Some key motives for forcefully decarboxylating cannabinoids are that the end result is more stable for commercialisation, and that ‘neutral’ cannabinoids have traditionally been seen to have more health-enhancing potential.
However, more recent research has shown that some raw cannabinoids can be significantly more potent for certain issues. But given that raw cannabinoids are less suitable for large-scale commercialisation, there is naturally a lack of resources to fund studies (money talks).
Bioavailability of CBDa
Bioavailability is the extent to which a body can absorb a substance and is a barrier to overcome for almost any supplement administered via the oral route. A bioavailability of 100% would mean that your body absorbs 100% of the substance.
Upon searching ‘CBD bioavailability’ on Google, you will quickly find results stating that the bioavailability of orally ingested CBD is a mere 6%. This is true, in the context of ingesting CBD in a fasted state.
When CBD is ingested with a meal containing a source of fat, the bioavailability increases 4 fold, bringing the bioavailability up to 24%. 24 is better than 6, but most of the CBD is still excreted through the kidneys and not used by the body.
CBDa capsules, however, have significantly higher bioavailability. In fact, a study by Jones et al., in the 24th Annual Symposium of the International Cannabinoid Research Society 2014, found the bioavailability of CBDa to be a staggering 80%.
What does this mean for you? CBDa capsules offer higher potency and better value for money.
Some of the benefits of CBDa overlap with CBD, while it also has some of its own unique effects. If you use cannabinoids for issues that CBDa capsules can help with, it may be a better choice for you than CBD capsules.
If you use CBD drops, holding them under the tongue before swallowing, rest assured that the bioavailability will be higher than with CBD capsules.
Full Spectrum Hemp Capsules
As our capsules contain simply raw hemp, they are named ‘hemp capsules’ rather than CBDa capsules. They do contain 10mg of CBDa per capsule, but also all of the other compounds that the plant produces.
This means that the capsules not only offer higher bioavailability, but also a complete entourage effect. For those of you who don’t know, the entourage effect refers to the synergistic relationship between all of the plant’s compounds.
Cannabinoids administered in their natural form, along with all of the naturally-occurring plant compounds, have been shown to be more effective than isolated cannabinoids.
So there you go, despite our Hemp (CBDa) capsules being our most simple product, they offer a wealth of benefits. Which is just another fantastic demonstration of what nature can provide.
